Cerualgie solution for ear instillation is a product which helps to soothe painful ears suffering from inflammation. This causes swelling and pain, as well as itching. When it touches the ear, one wants to scratch and soothe the pain, but the narrowness of the ear canal makes it difficult to reach the area. It is important not to use an object that would be introduced into the ear: there is a risk of damaging the eardrum.

Detergents, such as shampoos or soaps, are also likely to cause pain in the ear canal.

Bausch & Lomb laboratories have developed Cerualgie to provide effective and safe relief of the external auditory canal undergoing inflammation. This solution is composed of glycerol and lidocaine. The glycerol will adhere to the skin of the ear, and protect it. It will attract the water present in the tissues that are swollen, which will reduce the swelling and the pain. In parallel, lidocaine will provide an anaesthetic effect.
